Students, parents, and staff at Indian Creek Elementary kicked off the Christmas season in holiday style at the annual Party at the North Pole. The evening began with a performance by the Creek Choir and the lighting of the Christmas tree. Then everyone enjoyed Christmas games, food, and activities. James C Nobles, age 89, of Douglas, GA passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Manor House. Mr. Nobles was born on February 15, 1927, in Ocilla, Georgia to the late John Clark Nobles and Ned Naomi Nobles. Survivors include: Son: Johnny Nobles of Nicholls, GA. Brother: Loren (Sandra) Nobles of Brunswick, GA 9 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several Nieces and nephews. Indian Creek Elementary was honored to have children’s non-fiction author and educator, Amy M. O’Quinn, visit with us last week. Her presentation, Non-Fiction is Informative…and Fun, was very engaging. Her book, Marie Curie for Kids: Her Life and Scientific Discoveries, with 21 Activities and Experiments, was for sale. Mrs. O’Quinn was available to sign copies of her book and to discuss her writing. She shared with students how she gets her ideas and the process involved in publishing her books. Georgia House of Representative Dominic LaRiccia recently spoke to members of Coffee Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society about serving as pages during the 2017 session of the Georgia General Assembly. Representative LaRiccia provided great insight into the legislative proceedings at our state capital. FALL FORUM Each year, Senior 4-H members (9th – 12th graders) gather at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center during the second weekend in December for a conference called Fall Forum. The theme for this year’s conference is “4-H Vacation: Paradise at the Rock”. The conference will be held on December 10 & 11. 4-H members can volunteer to enter an exhibit in the annual exhibit fair, submit an application to teach classes, or even take part in the 4K run/walk. This announcement was made at the 2016 NACEP National Conference in Kentucky. Wiregrass Marketing and Public Relations department and High School Services department collaborated on the materials that were recognized nationally. James Merritt, age 69, of Broxton, Ga. passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Hospital following an extended illness. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation North recently held its 31st annual meeting at the Charles Harris Learning Center on the Ben Hill-Irwin Campus. Approximately 250 guests filled the banquet room decorated in a Christmas theme. This annual event, given by the Foundation to honor supporters of the college and the Foundation, is held each year to recognize and say thank you to the friends of the college.
