Glenda Gail Courson, age 78, of Douglas, GA, passed away peacefully at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas, GA on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025. She was born on June 7th, 1947 the daughter of the late Father Elige Jacob (EJ) Kight and the late Clara Mae Beecher Kight. Barbara was born and raised in Coffee County, GA. She attended Georgia Southern College, where she earned a master’s degree in Recreational Therapy. She worked at Grace Wood State School and Hospital. She later received an additional master’s degree in special education from Augusta College. She played a vital role in helping to bring the Special Olympic Program to Columbia County Schools. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College announces the dedication of the Coffee Campus Meeting Room in memory and honor of Asa and Sue Whitfield, recognizing the generous endowment made to establish a scholarship fund benefiting students in Coffee County. The newly dedicated meeting room, located in the Coffee Hall Building, serves as a gathering space for students, faculty, staff, and community patrons. On October 4, 2025, at 3:45 p.m., Valdosta police officers, Valdosta firefighters, and South Georgia Medical Center Emergency Medical Services responded to a residence in the 3800 block of Pecan Drive for a two-year-old child who had been attacked by dogs. When first responders arrived at the house, they found that the child was deceased. Valdosta Police Department detectives and Crime Scene personnel arrived and began the investigation. Through investigation, detectives determined that Stacy Wheeler Cobb, 48, was running an unlicensed daycare at her residence. The City of Douglas Electric Department is celebrating Public Power Week, Oct. 5-11, 2025, along with approximately 2,000 other community-powered, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 55 million Americans across 49 states and five U.S. territories. The first electrical lights were turned on in Douglas on May 26, 1905. Currently, the City of Douglas’ electrical distribution system consists of 132.15 miles of high-voltage primary lines.
