Westside Elementary held their annual My Princess and Me Dance on February 26, 2016. Princesses in grades Pre-K through 5th were escorted by their special Prince to share in an enchanted, glamourous evening. Princesses were pampered in the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique where they had their hair and make-up done just right. At the Glamour Nail Salon, they had their nails manicured and painted. The South Georgia State College Hawks defeated ABAC 6-0 March 8 in Tifton, Ga. Shawn Blue was at the mound most of the game and allowed no earned runs on four hits, helping the Hawks (11-12) earn and retain their lead. The Hawks totaled 10 hits, including an impressive offensive showing by Mikal Flores. He reached base four times by having singles in the first and fifth innings and a double in the seventh. South Georgia State College (SGSC) is pleased to announce the University System of Georgia Board of Regents at its March 2016 meeting approved a third bachelor’s degree for SGSC. A Bachelor of Science in Management degree will be available to students beginning fall semester. The degree is designed to develop business generalists who have the ability to enter the workforce with a strong understanding of sound management, financial, organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills. Students and parents had a blast at the 2016 Math Carnival at Indian Creek Elementary. Students were able to explore math concepts while playing fun carnival games, making estimates in Estimation Station, and enjoying a hotdog supper. A great time was had by all under the Big Tent! – Submitted
Jerry Hudson was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, March 8 at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. Mr. Hudson spoke about his past history with chemical dependency and the recent establishment of the Trinity Addictions Recovery Outreach ministry that provides support to individuals in the Coffee County area who are struggling with chemical dependency and to the families and friends of these individuals. The South Georgia State College Lady Hawks softball team swept Darton State in a doubleheader March 4 in Douglas. SGSC (14-5) won the first game in six innings via the run-rule, 8-0. The Lady Hawks defeated the Lady Cavaliers 8-5 in game two to complete the sweep. SGSC started the scoring in game one with four runs in the second, followed by three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Hawks built upon their lead with one run in the sixth. The South Georgia State College Hawks (10-12) swept the Lake Michigan Red Hawks in a three-game series at home March 5-6 – 10-0, 9-3, and 13-2. SGSC’s Cayden Hatcher delivered an impressive performance on the mound as he came away with a no-hitter in game one of the series. The South Georgia State College baseball team split a home doubleheader March 3 with the junior varsity team from Point University, winning the first game 9-3 and dropping the second 5-3. In the first game of the series, SGSC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Hawks tacked on another run in the second.
