South Georgia State College’s (SGSC) men’s and women’s cross country teams captured the NJCAA Region 17 Division I Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Macon. Nathan Dukes of Wayne County finished first for the men’s team, running the 8K in 27:42. Dukes also earned the distinction of being named the MVP. Laura Parsley, an international student from Scotland, finished second, running the 5K in 23:55 for the women’s team. The region meet was hosted by Central Georgia Technical College. South Georgia State College’s women’s soccer team has clinched a bye in the upcoming GCAA Tournament. The Lady Hawks (9-2, 8-2 GCAA) are scheduled to play in the tournament semifinals Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at Darton State College. The tournament bye is the result of the best regular season finish for SGSC in school history. The Lady Hawks defeated Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 4-0 in the regular season finale. The Douglas – Coffee County Public Library held a children’s Halloween party Saturday, October 24, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. in the large meeting room. Children had an option to dress up in costume, and there were various games including a mummy wrap competition, bug toss, pin the spider on the web, Halloween bingo/mad libs, and arts and crafts making ghosts, spiders, and coloring.
