Kyleigh Gay, a second grade student at Broxton-Mary Hayes Elementary, has been awarded the Principal’s Book Club Award for Reading Counts. In order to receive this prize, students must achieve 150 points with a passing average. Kyleigh has already met this goal and continues to strive for the next prize. Each grade level has point goals set for each nine weeks. Kyleigh has already met her goal through the third nine week grading period. The Douglas – Coffee County Chamber of Commerce welcomed Mackenzie Bennett today as the newest member of their staff. Mackenzie is currently taking over the role as the marketing specialist. Bennett attended Cook High School where she graduated in 2010. Following high school she attended Valdosta State University. During her time at Valdosta State, Mackenzie participated in an internship with Tift Regional Medical Center with the Outreach and Development Department. Mrs. Lois Rozar Spivey Strickland, age 84, of Douglas passed away suddenly Tuesday evening, Nov. 3, 2015, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was born March 30, 1931 to the late Louie Rozar and the late Bonner Elizabeth Hampton Rozar. Georgia State Superintendent Richard Woods recently held a ceremony to honor the state winners in the prestigious Young Georgia Author writing competition. The YGA writing competition has been a statewide competition for more than two decades that strives to encourage student passion for writing. The contest allows students to advance their writing skills and to be celebrated for their achievements and successes in arts and academics.
