Jimmie Sue Dockery, age 76, of Ambrose, GA passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at her residence following an extended illness. Mrs. Dockery was born on March 16, 1939 in Douglas, GA to the late Jesse Phillips and Ella Mae Griffin Phillips. After JoAnne Lewis announced her retirement from the Douglas-Coffee County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Authority in early October, Andrea Taylor was installed as the new executive director as of November 1. Taylor served under Lewis for five years, first as entrepreneur and small business development director then as vice-president. Taylor grew up in Coffee County, attending Ambrose Elementary School and Coffee High School before attending college at South Georgia College then Valdosta State University, achieving a degree in English and Art. South Georgia State College’s men’s basketball team improved its record to 5-0 Saturday afternoon with a 109-42 win over Summer Hill. The Hawks had four players score in double digits for the first time this season. Tyrone Sam was the leading scorer with 19 points, six rebounds, and one assist. Wiregrass Georgia Technical College will offer a driver’s education 36-hour course on the Coffee Campus December 21, 22, 28, and 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The six hour behind the wheel driving will be scheduled after classroom instruction ends. The program consists of 30 hours of classroom training and six hours of training behind the wheel. The program is designed to meet the training requirements of Joshua’s law as well as provide six of the 40 hours of supervised driving that teens must have before obtaining their driver’s license.
