The month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the City of Douglas Police Department would like to bring public awareness and educate citizens about domestic violence. The Douglas Police Department will host a Domestic Violence Awareness Workshop that will be free to the public on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 6 p.m. at the CE Weir Center located at 307 E. Mozell Hensel, age 81, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Oxton Place following an extended illness. Mrs. Hensel was born on June 15, 1934, in Broxton, GA to the late Roscoe Merritt and Velma Harper Merritt. South Georgia State College freshman Shanelle Frederick was selected as the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 21-27. A West Bay, Cayman Islands native, Frederick helped lead the Lady Hawks to a win over Gordon State and to a close match against rival Darton State.
