Satilla Regional Library System had Mr. Ron Collins perform his Tampa Taiko Drumming show for its final Summer Reading Program performance of 2015 on Wednesday, July 22. There was an ice cream party immediately following both performances. Mr. Collins talked about how his drums were made, the history of different Japanese instruments including the Shakuhachi, a Japanese bamboo flute, and the history of Taiko drumming. He brought his Shakuhachi and demonstrated tunes to the audience and introduced new Japanese words, while tying them in with existing words that are commonly used that are of Japanese origin. Satilla Regional Library System had a fun and exciting 2015 Summer Reading Program with theme “Every Hero Has a Story!” that started Monday, June 1, and went through Thursday, July 23. There were many great performances that included juggling, magic, balloons, the zoo, theatre, folk music and storytelling, and taiko drumming. There were also teddy bear picnics, mid-summer prizes of two passes each for two winners to Wild Adventures Theme Park, and grand prizes of a $ 50 Wal-Mart gift card and an Apple I-Pad Mini; with a winner for each prize. The Satilla Regional Library System hosted special guests Sergeant Tim Allmond of the Douglas Police Department and McGruff the Crime Dog at the Douglas-Coffee County Public Library last week during story and craft time.
