Mrs. Scottie Adams coordinates Box Tops for Education, Labels for Education, collects tabs from canned drinks, as well as Coke caps from bottled Coke products. These programs offer cash to schools in return for buying their products. Mrs. Adams does an amazing job of tracking student and faculty/staff contributions so monthly winners may be rewarded. Cory Baldwin, head men’s basketball coach at South Georgia State College (SGSC), will host his seventh annual “Baldwin’s Ballers” basketball camp this summer. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 6-15. Four-day sessions are scheduled for the weeks of June 13, 20, July 11, and 18 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on SGSC’s Waycross Campus. Each session is $80 per camper, which includes a t-shirt. A discount is available to campers who attend multiple sessions as well as family members of SGSC employees. William “Bill” Michael Corbi, age 69, of Douglas, GA passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Corbi was born on September 21, 1946, in Albany, GA to the late Michael William Corbi and Geraldine Revels Corbi. The City of Douglas was recently contacted by the Camera Ready Program concerning a possible film location for an upcoming television series for Amazon. The “Zelda” project will film in Savannah for the first two episodes and will move on to New York City. The request from the Georgia Camera Ready program was a location request for early barracks that were located within 1-1.5 hrs. away from Savannah. Ken Suttles and the Coffee Middle School Art Club made this Trojan mascot as a school project for 2016. The painting was done by the 8th grade club members. A “Name the Trojan” contest was held, and the Trojan mascot has been named Troy. He is an amazing addition to the Coffee Middle School campus! – Submitted
Wes Abler was the speaker at the Douglas Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday, May 17 at the Flyin’ Cowboy restaurant. Mr. Abler gave a presentation on his last trip to Alaska in the summer of 2015 during which his group, led by Vicki and Frank Pridemore, traveled from Anchorage to Prudhoe Bay and back down to Valdez. During the spring 2016 semester, 653 South Georgia State College students earned honors for exemplary academic achievement, according to Dr. Robert Page, vice president for academic affairs. A total of 180 students earned a spot on the President’s List, 226 on the Dean’s List, and 247 on the Academic Honors List. On Wednesday, May 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m., the senior class of Coffee High School will be participating in the fourth annual Senior Parade for the Class of 2016.
