Betty Jean Braswell, age 86, of Douglas, Georgia passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2026, at Tift Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 6, 1939, in Ben Hill County, GA the daughter of the late Robert Theo Wells and the late Annie Young Wells.
Survivors include: her beloved husband, Julian “Earl” Braswell of Douglas, GA; one daughter, Vickie Barnhart of Douglas, GA; six grandchildren: Clayton Pierce, Heather Barnhart, Crissy (Keith) Stone, Melissa (David) Dorman, Holly (Daniel ) Varnadoe, and Ryan (Megan) Bohannon; eight great grandchildren: Dylan (Tina) Holt, Averie Davidson, Macie Cooley, Lacey Stone, Gracie Varnadoe, Allie Varnadoe, Jace Dorman, and Gavin Dorman; two sisters, Joann Griffin and Opal (Junior) Pridgen; two brothers, Danny (Denise) Wells and Robert (Colleen) Wells; along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: father, Robert Theo Wells; mother, Annie Young Wells; son, William Victor Bohannon; daughter, Glenda Sheppard; grandson, Shane King; great grandchild, Ethan Fordham; brother, J.B. Wells; and two husbands, Troy Smith and William “Bud” Bohannon.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 17, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Sims Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 2:00 pm at New Corinth Calvary Holiness Church with Rev. Edsel Young and Rev. Jody Silvers officiating. Interment will follow at Douglas City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include Daniel Varnadoe, Clay Pierce, Dylan Holt, Keith Stone, Jeffery Wells, and Robert Pridgen.
Honorary pallbearers will include Phil Wells, Stacy Wells, Eddie Smith, Jack Jones, and Dwayne Sellers.
