Mrs. Betty Sue Gibbs Paulk, age 92, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away Tuesday evening, May 12, 2026, at her home following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Paulk, a native of Coffee County, was born September 16, 1933, to the late Willie Gibbs and the late Susie Vickers Gibbs Rollins. She married the love of her life, the late Thurston Paulk, Jr., and together they raised a beautiful family. She was a secretary at Livestock Marketers for a number of years and a dedicated and active member of Westwood Baptist Church. Her greatest treasures were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She found great joy in cooking, feeding and spending time with them, and encouraging them to love and serve the Lord.
Along with her husband and parents, Mrs. Paulk was preceded in death by a son, Mike Paulk; two grandsons: John Myron Coffee and Dennis Paulk; four brothers: W. T. Gibbs, J. D. Gibbs, Harold Gibbs, and Harvey Gibbs.
Mrs. Paulk is survived by two children: Dennis and Dianne Paulk of Ambrose, Georgia, and Susan and John Coffee of Douglas, Georgia; seven grandchildren: Dena Paulk Scherer, Drew Paulk Carter, Chris Coffee, Craig Coffee, Cam Coffee, Daine Paulk, and Mandy Ray Adams; nine great grandchildren: Chase Scherer, Camryn Scherer, Chyler Scherer, Evan Coffee, Callie Coffee, Carleigh Ann Coffee, Mac Coffee, Caden Carter, and John Ashton Carter; one great great grandchild, Evie Coffee; one sister: Jean Duggan of Sea Island, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Patsy Gibbs of Brunswick, Georgia; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Mrs. Paulk’s funeral will be held on Thursday afternoon, May 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. George Carroll Paulk officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Her family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM, for one hour prior to the funeral service.
Active pallbearers will include Evan Coffee, Caden Carter, Chase Scherer, Chyler Scherer, Henry Lewis, and David Gibbs. Honorary pallbearers will include all friends and family in attendance.
