There are 21 outs in a seven inning baseball game. Tuesday against the Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders, CCA starter Blake Bryant recorded 18 of those outs via strikeout.
Bryant threw a three-hit, 97-pitch complete game shutout to lead the Patriots to their 20th win of the season. CCA won 5-0 and now sits at 20-1 overall with two more region games remaining – a 4 p.m. doubleheader at home this afternoon against Robert Toombs again.
The Patriots scored two in the third, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh. Gray McLean (2-4, double, two runs), Skyler Woods (2-4, triple, RBI), and Clay Phillips (2-3) led CCA offensively. Thomas Gentry also had an RBI double.
Bryant’s 18 strikeouts is the most he’s recorded this season – one more than the 17 he struck out against Charlton County on March 21. Bryant has 95 strikeouts in 42 innings this year. He has surrendered one unearned run and is sitting on a 0.00 ERA.
The Patriots finish up the region schedule today at Patriot Field. They are 7-0 in region play.
CCA hits the road for the next three games: Monday against Calvary Christian and St. Anne-Pacelli and Thursday against John Milledge Academy. The Patriots close the regular season on Friday, May 1, with a 6 p.m. game against Deerfield-Windsor.
