The Douglas Fire Department will conduct routine fire hydrant testing throughout the city of Douglas from March 23 to April 3, 2026. Testing will take place at night from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.
During this time, citizens may notice cloudy or rusty-colored water. If discoloration occurs, please run water until it becomes clear before using it for cooking, washing, or other household needs. This helps flush out any rust that may have been disturbed in the pipes. Avoid washing clothes until water runs completely clear. If citizens experience discolored water and need rust-away, the Customer Service Department at City Hall (302 S. Madison Avenue) has a limited supply available. To request rust-away packets, please call 912-384-3302, and press 1 or 2.
Fire hydrant testing is essential to ensure adequate water pressure and flow for firefighting, verify mechanical function, and identify blockages or damage. These routine checks help prevent system failures, support firefighter safety, and contribute to insurance risk assessments.
For questions or concerns, please contact the City of Douglas Fire Department at 912-384-4815.
