It didn’t take long for the Coffee Trojans to pick up their first region win. And they did it Tuesday on the road against a solid Lee County Trojan team that never held a lead against Coffee. The top four hitters were a combined 9-16 and scored six of Coffee’s nine runs. They also drove in three. Coffee defeated Lee 9-4.
In the first, Ben Fussell led off with an infield single. Jimmy Timothy followed with a double to score Fussell and a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Lee started things off with a hit by pitch, a single, and a bunt to move Graysen Spears to third. Spears scored on a groundout to tie the game at one.
And that’s about as close as Lee would get.
Coffee scored one in the third, five in the fourth, and two in the sixth. Lee managed two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
Timothy finished the day 3-5 with two RBI and a run. Two of his hits were doubles. Fussell went 3-4 with two runs. Barrett Harrell had two hits (one of which was a double), two walks, and a run. Taeven Harden and Gavin McElroy drove in two while McElroy scored twice.
Coffee used a trio of pitchers with Eli Vickers picking up the win in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out three, walked five, and gave up three runs (two earned) on two hits. Evan Lingenfelter threw an inning and 2/3 while Eli Wood pitched the seventh.
Coffee is now 8-2 on the season and 1-0 in region play. Friday afternoon, Lee County comes to town for a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader. Before the game, the Coffee players will recognize those who play in the Douglas-Coffee County Parks & Recreation Department’s Miracle League, which begins its spring 2026 season next week.
