Dr. Shayne Grove, Academic Coach at Coffee High School, has just published her first book. Intriguingly titled How Not to Parent a Little Turd: A School Principal’s Practical, No B.S. Guide, the book puts Dr. Grove’s 30-plus year career in education to the test. Between its covers, she delivers honest, probing, and sometimes uncomfortable parenting guidance.
In the book’s synopsis, Dr. Grove writes the following:
“Why do you need this book? Because parenting can feel like trying to herd wild, unpredictable little humans — loud, stubborn, and determined to test your patience at every turn. Let’s be honest: raising kids is one of the hardest jobs on the planet. Too often, we react instead of lead: handling meltdowns, backtalk, and chaos on autopilot, wondering how things got this far. That’s where this book comes in. With over 30 years in education as both an elementary and high school principal, I’ve seen it all — from toddler tantrums to teenage attitude. One truth stands out: how you parent matters, and it shows. This isn’t a sugar-coated manual. It’s a straight-talking, real-world guide to raising kids who don’t grow up to be entitled or out-of-control adults. You’ll learn how to break reactive habits, set boundaries that stick, balance discipline with respect, and raise responsible, capable kids. It’s not too late to make a change — it starts with you. Fair warning: This book delivers honest advice with zero sugarcoating. If you’re ready to parent with confidence, this book is for you!”
