If you live on the Broxton-West Green Highway, Mora Road, or Mark Mobley Road, count your blessings. Your roads made the TIA resurfacing list and will be repaved. At the September county commission meeting, commissioners awarded the project Scruggs for $6.4 million. The county gave the professional services agreement for the project to Statewide Surveying for $654,732.
Among the items on the agenda were the following:
- The public hearing for a rezoning request from Tony Davis for three acres at 7626 Highway 221 North from Ag, Agriculture to C, Commercial. No one spoke for or against the request and it passed unanimously.
- A public hearing for a subdivision request from Tyler Ware for eight acres at 1822 MC Jowers Road for rental property. The county held the public hearing and no one spoke at the hearing. However, commissioners tabled the vote until Ware submits a proper plat.
Commissioners also heard the first readings of the following rezoning requests. The public hearings for these requests will take place at the October county commission meeting:
- June Mullis for .91 acres at 4223 Highway 32 West from R2, Residential to PD, Planned Development, for the purpose of locating her daughter’s law firm there. The property is rental property and should the law practice close, it would return to rental property.
- Donaldson Jowers for 11.35 acres at 368 Earl Day Road in Ambrose from Ag, Agriculture to RM, Residential Mixed. Jowers plans to divide the property into 17 lots for rental properties.
- Shawn Knight/The Sod Farmof South Georgia LLC for 95.8 acres from R2, Residential to Ag, Agriculture. The property is most of the old Beaver Kreek Golf Club and Knight would like to use the property as a sod farm. County staff and the planning commission recommend denying the request.
At the beginning of the meeting, the commission also signed a proclamation designating September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Coffee County. The Childhood Cancer Awareness Group of Coffee County is active year ‘round but designates September as the official childhood cancer awareness month for the year.
