A Friday night crash sent two people to Coffee Regional Medical Center and blocked a busy intersection just blocks from downtown.
The accident took place around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Ward Street and Gaskin Avenue. A Pontiac G6 car traveling west on Ward Street collided with an older model Chevrolet S-10 pickup that was headed north on Gaskin Avenue. The impact damaged the passenger side of the pickup and knocked the truck onto the sidewalk on the northwest side of Gaskin facing north. The Pontiac suffered major front-end damage and spun around in the intersection facing east.
The drivers, who both said they had the right-of-way at the intersection, suffered injuries and were transported to Coffee Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Douglas police officers and three troopers from the Georgia State Patrol were on the scene investigating the accident.
