Coffee Regional Medical Center is proud to recognize Ryan Lupo, RN, charge nurse in the Emergency Department, as its latest DAISY Award recipient. Lupo was nominated three times for the award by both coworkers and a patient, with each nomination highlighting his compassion, leadership, positivity and commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
As a charge nurse, Lupo is responsible for helping lead the Emergency Department through some of its busiest and most challenging moments. His coworkers say he consistently remains calm under pressure while making sure patients receive safe, timely and compassionate care.
One coworker described Lupo as a nurse who “leads by example every shift,” noting his ability to balance the responsibilities of a charge nurse with direct patient care. The nomination highlighted his willingness to assist coworkers, answer questions and step in whenever needed.
Lupo’s commitment to patients is equally evident.
“He takes the time to listen to their concerns, explain treatments in a reassuring manner, and advocate for their needs,” the coworker wrote. “Patients and families alike often feel comforted by his presence.”
A patient who nominated Lupo after receiving care in the Emergency Department and ER Overflow described him as “very compassionate and extremely thorough,” adding that he was always there when needed and never complained when asked for assistance.
Beyond patient care and clinical leadership, Lupo has also earned a reputation for uplifting his colleagues. One nomination noted that he makes a point at the end of every shift to tell his coworkers what a great job they did that day—a simple gesture that helps boost morale and reminds team members that their work is appreciated.
Another coworker summed up Lupo’s impact simply, describing him as “always in a good mood, always happy, and always positive,” and someone who is “great with the staff, great with patients, and always willing to help out all while keeping a smile on his face.”

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that celebrates nurses for their extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care.
