Two Coffee County women were arrested and jailed after they allegedly were in a car that crashed into a ditch then left the scene of the accident.
According to an incident report from the sheriff’s office, just after 5 a.m. on November 4, 2025, an officer responded to a vehicle in a ditch call at Ambrose Road and MC Jowers Road. When he arrived, he found a silver Ford Edge in the ditch, front end first. No one was in the vehicle. Officers searched the car and found a driver’s license belonging to Cammie Nugent, 35, of Douglas.
A witness stated that he had seen two women go inside a mobile home across the road from the accident. Two deputies went to the house and spoke with Nugent and Erin Slusher, 26, of Ambrose. After a few minutes, the report says they admitted to being in the car.
When questioned, the report says that Slusher first said she was driving. But once she was taken into custody, she stated that Nugent was driving. Deputies questioned Nugent who, according to the report, “initially let Erin take the blame with no remorse, then continued to lie.” Ther report also states that “it was evident that Cammie was not in any condition to drive.”
Slusher was charged with hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident and obstruction. Nugent was charged with failure to maintain lane along with hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident. Both were booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released.
