Coffee starter Kanlee Douglas needed just one run – which came in the form of an Ella Edge home run (3) in the third inning – to defeat the Thomasville Lady Dogs Wednesday afternoon at Faircloth Field in Douglas for the Lady Trojans’ fifth consecutive win.
Douglas threw a complete game two-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking two. She threw 100 pitches, 67 of which were strikes.
The Lady Dogs’ Ava Simpson was equally effective, throwing a two-hitter of her own. She struck out six to two walks.
The difference, however, came in the third inning when, with one out, Edge hit the first pitch she saw out of the park for a solo home run. The 1-0 lead would stand for the last four innings and the Lady Trojans collected their fourth win in a row.
Coffee is now 5-2 overall and 3-0 in region play. Next up for the Lady Trojans is a region showdown against the Tift County Blue Devils in a Thursday afternoon doubleheader at Faircloth Field.
