The Douglas Mayor’s Youth Council (D.M.Y.C.) held their first official meeting of the 2026-2027 school year on August 17, 2026, 5:00 p.m., at City Hall. The student leaders set a great tone for the months ahead by establishing goals for the upcoming term and focusing on planning community events, and upcoming school partnerships.
The meeting was called to order by Jr. Mayor Jaleigha Williams, followed by a prayer from Jr. Commissioner Ny’Liya Simpson and Jr. City Manager Savion Studstill led the Pledge of Allegiance. This meeting was a Work Session focused on discussions about their jacket order, selecting a name for the upcoming event that will serve as their September meeting, and planning ideas for the Magnolia House Community Service Project. During the session, Mayor Paulk provided guidance on proper meeting protocol and shared his expectations for success and excellence within the Youth Council.
During the D.M.Y.C. Orientation Workshop in June, the Youth Council selected the Jr. Mayor, Jr. Commissioners and other officials for the new year. The Jr. Mayor for 2026-2027 is Jaleigha Williams and Kamaria Wilkerson will serve as Jr. Mayor Pro Tem. Emily Duque, Ny’Liya Simpson, Jace Wilson, and Zanadii Wright will serve as Junior Commissioners. Other officials will be Savion Studstill as Jr. City Manager, Gerald Williams as Jr. Attorney, Tripp Lewis as Jr. City Clerk, and M’ahaley Sheppard as Deputy City Clerk.
The Youth Council invites everyone to attend the event “Tomorrow’s Leaders, Welcoming Today’s Superintendents” on September 21, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall. This event will introduce the new Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents of the Coffee County Board of Education.
