On July 7, 2026, a Douglas police officer arrested the driver of a Hyundai Elantra on illegal drug charges during a traffic stop for possible illegal window tint.
According to an incident report from the police department, around 11:20 p.m., an officer noticed the Elantra and saw that it possibly had illegal window tint. He stopped the vehicle on North Chester Avenue and spoke to the driver, identified as Tony Hatch Harper, 26, of Douglas.
The report says the officer measured the window tint and it was in fact illegal. He also spoke with a passenger in the vehicle. The report says the officer smelled marijuana inside the car but the passenger said she didn’t know if there was any marijuana inside the vehicle.
Harper, however, said there was a small amount of marijuana in the car. The officer searched the vehicle and found a roach as well as a small amount of suspected methamphetamine and a bag of suspected marijuana.
Harper was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail and released on a $5,500 property bond.
