A Douglas woman remains in the Coffee County Jail after she allegedly threatened to kill some of her neighbors.
An incident report from the Douglas Police Department states that the call came in on July 21, 2026, at 9:50 p.m. as a welfare check on Leader Street. Two officers ultimately responded and spoke to witnesses, who said that Candice Drewsel Sims Hardy, 39, had been acting erratically for some time, going back to May.
What sparked the call, the report says, is Hardy was standing in the road blocking traffic. A neighbor tried to leave a driveway but Sims wouldn’t move out of the way. When asked to move, Hardy allegedly told the neighbor that she would kill her.
The officers spoke with other neighbors who said that Hardy had been threatening people “for a while now” and she stays up late talking to herself. When officers spoke to Hardy at the scene, the report says that she did not make sense and jumped from subject to subject.
The officers arrested Hardy and charged her with terroristic threats and acts. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and given a $5,500 property bond. However, she remains in jail.
