Dr. Romulo Navarro, age 89, of Douglas, GA, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, following a short illness. He was born on October 22, 1936, the son of the late Mr. Agustin Navarro and Mrs. Delfina Perez.
Dr. Romulo Navarro devoted more than four decades to medicine and to the people of Coffee County. He joined Coffee Regional Medical Center in 1982 and served as a general surgeon until his retirement in 2018. His commitment to helping others continued through volunteer work with the Coffee County Open Arms Clinic. Beyond medicine, he embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. He loved singing and dancing, running, traveling, and his lifelong passion for cars. His warmth, generosity, and zest for life touched many, leaving behind a legacy of service, friendship, and cherished memories.
His survivors include: his beloved wife, Maria Luisa Navarro of Douglas, GA; one son, Raymund Navarro of Douglas, GA; and one daughter, Mary Lou Navarro of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Yolanda (Josefino) Armada of North Carolina and Lina (Lito) Caranandang of South Carolina; along with several nieces and nephews and many family members from the Philippines. He was preceded in death by: his beloved daughter, Rachelle Navarro; father, Agustin Navarro; mother, Delfina Navarro; siblings, Elvira (Florencio) Espina, Fred (Nene) Navarro, Thelma Navarro, and Aurora (Guillermo) Lim.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Sims Funeral Home in Douglas, GA, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Douglas, GA, at 10:30 AM, with Father Saimel Perdomo officiating. Interment will follow at Satilla Memorial Gardens in Douglas, GA.
Active pallbearers will include: Dr. H.P. Nair, Dr. Thomas Wehmann, Dr. Charles Bagwell, Dr. Orly Fernando, Kenny Brigmond, and Terry Thurman.
