Mrs. Faye Taylor Schoppee, age 83, passed away Monday, March 30, 2026, at the Landings of Douglas where she resided with her husband of almost 63 years, Ronald Schoppee.
Faye was born July 30, 1942, in Alma, Georgia, to the late Oswell Taylor and the late Gladys Tanner Taylor. Over the course of her working life, she spent time as a telephone operator in Jacksonville, Florida, where she developed a lifelong bond with four other ladies that shared a home and profession with her. She and her husband Ronald made their home on a lovely farm in Ellsworth, Maine, where together they raised their three children, and she achieved her greatest accomplishment as a loving wife and mother. They later owned and operated The Vineyard Christian Book Store in Ellsworth, Maine for 13 years. In 1998 Faye and Ronald moved to Douglas, Georgia to enjoy their retirement years, where she continued to keep herself busy as a paraprofessional and substitute teacher specializing in early childhood and special needs education. Her love for Jesus was demonstrated in her love for children. She served for more than 60 years teaching children about Jesus as a Sunday School teacher at Ellsworth Assembly of God in Ellsworth, Maine, where she was affectionately known as their beloved “Teacher Faye”. After their move to Douglas, she became an active member of College Avenue Baptist Church where she continued to share Jesus with adults and children alike through Sunday School and Children’s Church. Along with her parents, Faye was preceded in death by seven siblings: Laverne Carter, Lutricel Taylor, Marlow Taylor, Johnny Taylor, Eugene Taylor, Billy Taylor, Quillion Taylor; and a special cousin, Connie Marston.
Faye is survived by her husband of almost 63 years, Ronald Schoppee of Douglas, Georgia, three children: Tasha Schoppee of Jacksonville, Florida, James Schoppee of Douglas, Georgia, and Glen Schoppee of Douglas, Georgia; one brother, Ray Taylor (Sheila) of Alma, Georgia; a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members; her very best friend, Joy Roberson of Douglas, Georgia; and her special friends in the Ruth-Naomi Sunday School Class at College Avenue Baptist Church, Douglas, Georgia.
Per her request, Faye will be memorialized by cremation, and a celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM at College Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Littlejohn and Chaplin Jewell Rivers officiating.
Condolences, kind words and fond memories may be shared with Faye’s family at www.ricketsonfuneralhome.com.
Faye’s arrangements have been entrusted to the kind and compassionate staff of Ricketson Funeral Home, Inc. of Douglas, Georgia.
