Chief Frank Worth Veazey, Jr., age 85, a lifelong resident of Broxton, Georgia, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, February 12, 2026, at his residence with his devoted wife of 66 years, Mary, by his side following an extended illness.
Chief Veazey was born August 23, 1940, in Broxton, Georgia, to the late Frank Worth Veazey, Sr. and the late Mildred Louise Benton Veazey. As a teenager he joined the Coffee County Fire Department which would become a lifelong endeavor. At nineteen he married the love of his life, Mary Whidden, and together they made a wonderful life and home where they raised four children. Chief Veazey devoted sixty-eight years to the Coffee County Fire Department, where he served for more than 40 years as Broxton Fire Chief. He trained and mentored countless firefighters in Coffee County throughout his career and left a lasting legacy that will live on for years to come. Along with his parents, Chief Veazey was preceded in death by his only sibling, his sister, Gail Veazey Reynolds.
Chief Veazey leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Mary Whidden Veazey of Broxton, Georgia; four children: Sheila V. Corbitt of Pearson, Georgia, Frank Veazey, III of Broxton, Georgia, Amy Guess (Keith) of Broxton, Georgia, and Wesley Bryan Veazey, Sr. (Jodi) of Broxton, Georgia; four grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Chief Veazey will be honored with a memorial service on Thursday morning, February 19, 2026, at Broxton First Baptist Church. Chief Veazey’s family will receive friends at Broxton First Baptist Church one hour prior to the memorial service.
