Mr. Garland Murry Whiddon, age 67, of Douglas, Georgia, passed away from a sudden illness on Sunday morning, March 22, 2026, at his residence.
Garland was born August 18, 1958, in Ashburn, Georgia, to the late Preston Lamar Whiddon and the late Mary Frances Wise Whiddon. He was a dedicated employee of R. W. Griffin in Douglas, Georgia, for many years, and he attended Morningside Baptist Church. Garland enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy came from time spent with his family and loving on his grandchildren. Along with his parents, Garland was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Sherry Whiddon.
Garland leaves behind his wife, Kathy Marie Vickers Whiddon of Douglas, Georgia; two sons: Jason Garland Whiddon and wife, Kayla, of Douglas, Georgia and Benjamin “Benjy” Wiley Whiddon, also of Douglas, Georgia; two grandchildren: Embry Anna Whiddon and Eason Asher Whiddon of Douglas, Georgia; three siblings: Glenda Whiddon Adams and husband, Ken, of Sylvester, Georgia, and Gary Whiddon, and George Whiddon and wife, Sandra, all of Ashburn, Georgia; along with a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Memorialization will be by cremation, and a celebration of Garland’s life will be held on March 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel. His family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM, for one hour prior to the service.
