Mr. George Lowell “Zip” Grantham, age 84, passed away Monday Evening, September 21, 2026, at his residence with his devoted wife and loved ones by his side following an extended illness.
Zip, as he was known to everyone, was born June 20, 1942, in Douglas, Georgia, to the late James Crayvon Grantham and the late Grace Carter Grantham. He was a veteran of the United States Army Reserve, and for many years he was the owner and operator of Grantham Oil Company. He attended Ambrose Christian Church. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Zip loved all things outdoors including hunting and fishing, but his favorite by far was Turkey hunting. He also enjoyed mornings spent with friends at the Breakfast Table group.
Zip leaves behind his devoted wife, Jan C. Grantham of Douglas, Georgia; three children: Chad Grantham and wife, Monica, of Abbeville, Alabama, Kory Grantham and wife, Ariel, of Douglas, Georgia, and Kayla G. Jones and husband, Mike, of Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren: Mitchell Grantham and wife, Molly, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Mason Jones of Jacksonville, Florida, Corra Grantham and Lilah Grantham, both of
Douglas, Georgia; two brothers, Jimmy Grantham and wife, Margaret of Willacoochee, Georgia and Van Grantham and wife, Teresa, of Douglas, Georgia; Along with a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
A celebration of Zip’s life will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Ambrose Christian Church, 4140 Vickers Crossing, Ambrose, Georgia 31512 with Rev. Doralyn Paulk officiating. The family will receive friends for one and a half hours at the church beginning at 9:30 AM and continuing until service time. Interment will be at Satilla Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers will include the Breakfast Table Group: Floyd Dukes, Frankie Harrell, Bernie Forth, Mike O’Steen, Tommy Crozier, Rev. Buddy Jordan and his dedicated sitters: Jackie Jones, Tameeka Ellerton, and Jovita Cabrera.
