A six-run first inning rocketed the South Georgia State College Hawks to an 8-1 win over the East Georgia State College Bobcats Monday on the Hawks’ home field in Douglas.
Former Coffee Trojan Hanna Hutchinson doubled and drove in two. The Hawks scored runs on a passed ball and an error. Bayli Carver scored tagging on a fly out, and Gia Tiant singled and drove in a run. The Hawks added a run in the second and fourth to take an 8-1 lead that would hold for the remainder of the game.
Madison Martin, Tiant, and Hutchinson each had two hits. Jessica Joiner scored three times. Hutchinson also drove in three runs.
Emilee Garrett threw a complete game for the Hawks, striking out one and walking four. She gave up one earned run on seven hits.
The Hawks are 5-10 overall and 3-4 against conference opponents. They are sitting in fourth place behind Gordon State, Georgia Military, and Georgia Highlands.
SGSC travels to Swainsboro today for another showdown against East Georgia.
