On March 25, 2026, at around 1:50 p.m., Douglas police officers responded to an auto accident at the intersection of East Baker Highway and South Gaskin Avenue. When officers arrived, they discovered that one of the drivers had fled the scene of the crash.
According to incident reports from the Douglas Police Department, both vehicles were traveling south on South Gaskin Avenue. As they neared the intersection of East Baker Highway, vehicle two, a 2011 Toyota Scion driven by Sheila Denise Townsend, 63, of Douglas, struck a 2014 Dodge Charger driven by Adjianna Rita Monique Drennen.
According to the reports, Townsend fled the scene following the accident.
Officers were able to determine where Townsend lived and went to her residence. She was there and told police that she drove away because she was scared. The officers detected the smell of alcohol when speaking with Townsend. According to the report, Townsend admitted that she was intoxicated.
An officer began a field sobriety test. The report says that she began the test then eventually said she didn’t want to continue. She again admitted to being drunk, the report states.
Townsend was arrested and charged with following too closely, hit and run, DUI, and driving with a suspended license. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released.
No one was injured in the accident.
