PROJECT ACHIEVEMENT
It is finally here! Cloverleaf Project Achievement, or DPA as we like to call it, is this Saturday, Nov. 11. Our staff has been very busy working with about 75 Cloverleaf 4-H members trying to help them get their speeches and posters ready for competition. Cloverleaf DPA is open to students in fourth through sixth grades.
DPA is a 4-H competition where a student selects a project area, narrows down their subject, researches it, organizes their information, and writes a speech. Once their speech is written, they have to prepare visuals to go with their speech. They have a six minute time limit for demonstrations and four minutes for performing arts projects.
After students complete their competition, they will enjoy lunch, some games and then an award ceremony. Fourth and fifth graders compete separately from sixth graders. First through third place awards are presented in each project for each competition (4th-5th & 6th). After the awards ceremony, Coffee County 4-H members will enjoy a reward party back in Douglas.
We want to wish all of the students competing the best of luck in their project competition.
HOG SHOW TAGGING DAYS
4-H and FFA members as well as pre-club students interested in showing a hog in the 2018 County Market Hog Show in February need to bring their pigs to Coffee High School by the Animal Science Building on Saturday morning, Nov.11, between the hours of 8 and 9 a.m. All pigs in line by 9 a.m. will be tagged. A veterinarian will be on site to draw blood for health papers.
Students/parents who are not able to attend this Saturday's tagging day may choose to come on Monday, Nov. 27, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. However, there will not be a vet for drawing blood work on this date. Exhibitors will be responsible for getting this done on their own.
For more information, please contact your 4-H Agent or FFA Advisor.
4-H ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY WORKDAY
4-H members are reminded of the next 4-H Adopt-A-Highway on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 4 p.m. 4-H'ers should meet at the 4-H office for this activity. We are usually finished by 5 p.m., so parents who don't stay and help should be back at 5 p.m. to pick up their children.
FALL FORUM
The Georgia 4-H Board of Directors are planning a fun-filled weekend for Fall Forum, "4-H FAMEily, Where You Are the Star!" The weekend includes a mix of workshops and educational sessions along with opportunities for community service and exhibits. Registration for Fall Forum is open to any current 9th-12th grade 4-H members in the 2017-2018 school term. This event provides many opportunities for project work, competition, networking and training for youth and adults.
Early bird registration fee of $70 is due by Monday, Nov. 13. Regular registration is $75 and is due by Monday, Nov. 27. The registration fee covers Saturday lunch, dinner and lodging, as well as Sunday breakfast. Pizzas can be ordered Saturday morning or at lunch and are $12 each.
There will be a Fall Forum 4K race on Sunday morning. The registration fee for the race is $12 and includes a Clover Glove race t-shirt.
4-H members can apply to teach a workshop at Fall Forum. The application form is on the Fall Forum website at http://www.georgia4h.org/fallforum/. Application deadline is Friday, Nov. 17. Students may also apply to enter an exhibit in the Exhibit Fair. This would be a great way to add to your DPA Portfolio's Helping and Sharing section.
One of the training opportunities is the Georgia 4-H Certified Teen Leader Training. If you are a senior 4-H member who has never taken the training, this is a great opportunity for you.
You are also asked to contribute canned foods to the "4‑H Cans Hunger" service project. Be sure to turn in your canned foods to the 4-H office before Dec. 1.
Please feel free to contact the 4-H office if you have additional questions about Fall Forum.
