Hog show tagging days and Fall Forum

Kevin Tatum, County Extension Coordinator

4-H and FFA members as well as pre-club  students interested in showing a hog in the 2020 County and/or State Market Hog Show in February need to bring their pigs to Coffee Middle School by the Billy Walker Livestock Building on Monday, November 11, or Monday, November 18, between the hours of 4 PM and 5:30 PM. All pigs in line by 5:30 PM will be tagged.  There will not be a veterinarian available for drawing blood work on either date this year. Exhibitors will be responsible for getting this done on their own. Don’t forget to bring your checkbook to take care of the state show registration fee. A parent will need to be present with the student to complete all the necessary paperwork for the shows.

For more information, please contact your 4-H Agent or FFA Advisor.

Fall Forum

The Georgia 4-H Board of Directors are planning a fun-filled weekend for Fall Forum, “#trending with Georgia 4-H”. The weekend (December 14-15) includes a mix of workshops and educational sessions along with opportunities for community service and exhibits. Registration for Fall Forum is open to any current 9th-12th grade 4-H members in the 2019-2020 school term. This event provides many opportunities for project work, competition, networking, and training for youth and adults.

Early bird registration fee of $90 is due by Wednesday, November 13. Regular registration is $95 and is due by Tuesday, November 26. The registration fee covers Saturday lunch, dinner, and lodging, as well as Sunday breakfast. Pizzas can be ordered Saturday morning or at lunch and are $12 each.

There will be a Fall Forum 4K race on Sunday morning. There is usually an additional registration fee for the race around $12-$15 and includes a Clover Glove race t-shirt.

4-H members can apply to lead a community service project at Fall Forum. The application information is available from the 4-H office. This online application deadline is 5 PM on Wednesday, November 20. Students may also apply to enter an exhibit in the Exhibit Fair. This would be a great way to add to your DPA Portfolio’s “Helping and Sharing” section. Online applications for the exhibit fair are due by 5 PM on Wednesday, December 4.

You are also asked to contribute canned foods to the “4-H Cans Hunger” service project. Be sure to turn in your canned foods to the 4-H office before December 1st. Please feel free to contact the 4-H office if you have additional questions about Fall Forum.

4-H Fundraiser

We need your help! Coffee County 4-H is offering Hog-N-Bones Boston butt tickets to sell to the public. The tickets sell for $25, a savings of $5 for these Boston butts. If you are planning to participate in a 4-H competition or attend summer camp this school year, the profit of $4 per ticket from these ticket sales can be used to pay for your team registration fee or camp fee. Tickets will be available after October 1st. A parent will have to come to the 4-H office to pick up tickets. The tickets can be used until January 2, 2020, to pick up the Boston butt at the Douglas Hog-N-Bones restaurant anytime during their normal business hours. Remember, this fund raiser is raising money to benefit YOU! So take advantage of it today.

Please feel free to contact the 4-H office if you have additional questions about Fall Forum.

If you would like to learn how you can become more involved with the Coffee County 4-H program, please contact the Coffee County Extension office at (912) 384-1402 or visit our website at http://coffee4h.org.
