A Douglas man was arrested on several charges related to a hit and run accident that occurred around 2:20 a.m. on May 14.
According to the accident report from the Douglas Police Department, Sedarrien Smith was driving south in a silver 2010 Dodge Ram pickup on North Peterson Avenue when he allegedly ran the red light at North Peterson and East Ward Street. He struck another vehicle in the intersection, causing that vehicle to overturn.
The report states that Smith got into an SUV and left the scene. The driver of the other vehicle sustained visible injuries and was taken to CRMC by EMS for treatment. A short time later, Smith turned himself in at the Coffee County Law Enforcement Center.
During questioning at the LEC, the report says that Smith stated all he remembered was “leaving the club and everything else was a blur.” About an hour and a half after the accident, Smith registered 0.14 on a police breathalyzer test. About 30 minutes later, during a breath alcohol content test, Smith allegedly registered a 0.151. He was charged with DUI-alcohol, hit and run, failure to obey a traffic signal, and use of safety belts in a passenger vehicle.
