On Saturday, August 5, officers responded to East Leon Street regarding a call about a possible assault. According to the report by the City of Douglas Police Department, upon arriving, the officers spoke with two individuals after they were finished being treated by EMS. Both individuals claimed that Trent Canady, 33, and Princess Collins, 29, had allegedly assaulted them.
As stated by these individuals, they were walking along North Coweta Avenue when Canady and Collins pulled up next to them in their vehicle. Allegedly, Collins got out of the vehicle and said something about one of the individual’s mother. A comment was made back to Collins about her mother, and that is when Collins began hitting and trying to knee the individual, who was pregnant, in the stomach.
The victim also reported that Collins brought out a silver box cutter and attempted to cut her stomach. While trying to defend her stomach from the blade, the victim claimed that Collins instead cut her right index finger. The report states that Canady grabbed the second individual by the throat, choked her, and then hit her in the jaw before the fight finally ended.
Officers headed to a residence on Pearl Avenue where they spoke with Collins. She claimed that the individuals walked into her yard on Pearl Avenue and started threatening and eventually attacking her. She claimed she had blood on her arm and there was blood on the ground where the alleged attack took place; however, the report states officers were unable to find any blood on her property.
According to the report, officers discovered that one of the victims had an ankle monitor that could be tracked. Officers eventually went to the location on Coweta Avenue where the victims had reported the alleged attack took place. According to the report, gold hoop earrings, a pink fingernail, a Michael Kors bracelet, and blood were found at the scene. One individual reported that Collins was wearing gold hoop earrings before the altercation started. Officers also spoke to a witness who had seen the fight and corroborated the victims’ stories.
Officers took warrants for aggravated assault against both Canady and Collins. Canady was later found on South Gaskin Avenue and arrested. He remains in the Coffee County Jail. Officers have not located Collins yet. She remains wanted by local authorities.
