Alma police reported Wednesday the arrest of two people wanted in connection to passing thousands of dollars in forged checks in the area. The arrests came following a 10-day search for the suspects.

Amy and Franklin Gregg Thornton were wanted after APD discovered the couple had forged 17 checks at Parker’s Food Mart and three checks at Jay’s IGA; cash received from the fraudulent checks exceeded $7,000.

The pair had returned to Jay’s IGA and were in the process of receiving funds through a forged Western Union document against the victim of the stolen checks when they were arrested.

Each are now facing at least 21 counts of forgery.

Alma investigators are also determining if drug charges will be filed after discovering evidence of substance abuse and doctor shopping.

In an unrelated incident early Tuesday morning, August 16, APD arrested 26-year-old Kenneth Lee Minson of Homerville for possession of cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Officers observed Minson approaching vehicles on E. 7th St. near N. Baker St. in Alma and had in his possession two packages of suspected crack cocaine (each package containing an unknown amount of crack cocaine), and 11 packages of suspected crystal methamphetamine.
