School board recognizes exemplary students at monthly meeting

There were three special recognitions at the Coffee County Board of Education’s February School Board Meeting. The meeting was held on Thursday, February 23rd, 2017.
Leana Atkinson, daughter of David and Angie Atkinson, was recognized for winning a state title in the Floral Arranging Career Development Event. As a special touch, Leana prepared floral arrangements for the board members and Superintendent Dr. Morris Leis. Leana was recognized along with Spencer Highsmith, her agriculture teacher at GWC Freshman Campus, and Brad Riner, CTAE Director.
John Watts was also recognized, as he recently won the 2016-2017 Class 6A State Wrestling Championship in his weight class, with an exciting 5-4 victory. John finished the season with an impressive 47-2 record and will be going on to national competition in Virginia Beach, VA. He was joined by Coffee High head wrestling coach Cade Paulk at the meeting.
Also in attendance for recognition was the 2016-2017 Coffee High swim team. The team was named Region 1AAAAAA Girls’ and Boys’ champions this season. Though there was not a region meet the past two years, prior to that, Coffee High swim team earned six consecutive region titles. The team was recognized along with head coach Barbara Joiner and assistant coach Vic Sims.
