Sunday afternoon around 1 p.m., a shooting took place in Pearson that led to the Ware State Prison K-9 team tracking the suspect to a mobile home he was hiding under.

According to an incident report from the Pearson Police Department, an individual who had been working outside reported hearing gunshots on Mancil Drive in Pearson. Then he said he saw a male in a yellow shirt come by who said his wife had showed up a trailer at which he lived with his girlfriend. The wife, the man said, began shooting at him. He told the witness he would give a statement to police if needed then he took off running, the report says.

A Pearson police officer went to the home on Mancil Drive where the shooting took place. There had been two vehicles at the home, the report says, but there were none when he arrived. While the officer was on the scene, the owner of the home came back and reported that she was walking into the house when she heard gunshots. She also said that she and the man in the yellow shirt, identified as Dominique Jackson, 32, of Brunswick, lived there together. She and a cousin, who was also at the residence and drove the other vehicle, fled. The homeowner told the officer that she had talked with Jackson and he had said that his wife had been shooting at her.

The officer would determine later in the investigation that Jackson’s wife had not been the one shooting. The report doesn’t mention anything about his wife, whose name was never given in the report, as having been at the home.

The officer confirmed that Jackson was the individual wearing the yellow shirt who had fled the scene on foot. The officer left the home to look for Jackson. He saw him on Austin Avenue Extension, the report says, and Jackson started running again. Officials contacted the Ware State Prison’s bloodhound team to track Jackson. Eventually, they found Jackson hiding under a mobile home. By the time he was caught, he had taken off the yellow shirt and was wearing a white T-shirt. The yellow shirt, however, was found under the trailer.

Once apprehended, the officer and Jackson went back to the Mancil Drive home where Jackson took the officer inside. He retrieved a handgun, a SCCY 9mm, and according to the report, admitted to shooting “two or three times” but it was accidental. He said he had been cleaning the gun and it went off. In the report, the officer states that the point from where the shots were fired offered a clear line of sight to the door in which the victim was attempting to enter when the shots rang out. The officer also noted that there was no cleaning kit anywhere nearby.

Jackson was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was transported to the Atkinson County Jail where he remains.
