A 17-year-old high school student returned to school after the Christmas break only to end up taken out of Coffee High School in handcuffs due to an alleged incident that took place over a cell phone before school that morning.

According to a report from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, January 5, 2024, a complainant called 911 around 7 a.m. and reported that a 17-year-old who lived at the residence had gotten angry because of a cell phone. In the report, the complainant stated that she had taken the teen’s phone a few days before. The teen wanted the phone back and the complainant refused. The report says that the complainant told the teen that she would return the phone after school that day.

The teen allegedly got mad and broke a 32-inch television set. The teen also broke a candle on the floor. The officer saw the broken television and what appeared to be a broken candle while he was at the house. The complainant stated that she wanted to press charges against the teen.

The officer went to Coffee High School and questioned the teen. The report says that the teen admitted to becoming angry because the complainant wouldn’t return the phone. The teen also admitted to breaking the TV and the candle.

The officer arrested the teen on criminal trespass charges. The teen was transported from Coffee High School to the Coffee County Jail and later released.
