Rodney “Rod” Eugene Martin, age 72, of Douglas, GA passed away on Friday, November 20, 2015, at Mayo Clinic following a brief illness.

Mr. Martin was born on May 11, 1943, in San Jose, CA to the late Warren Richard Martin and Flora Viola Camenisch Martin. Mr. Martin was a member of First Presbyterian, where he served as Trustee, Deacon, and Elder during his 45 years of membership. He was active in his community serving on the Board of Directors of Douglas National Bank, and former Directors of East Central Tech, South Georgia College Board of Directors, Board of Directors of Coffee Regional, and Douglas Coffee County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Mr. Martin was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling throughout the USA and Canada in his RV with his wife and their dog Otis. Many friends and acquaintances enjoyed his insights on finances and trading stocks.

Survivors include: his wife, Laverne Faulkner Martin of Douglas, GA; daughter, Kimberly Suzanne Martin Pearce of Douglas, GA; two sons, Jeffrey Faulkner Martin and wife, Lisa Ray Martin of Blackshear, GA and John DeWitt Martin, II of Douglas, GA; two brothers, John W. Martin of Medford, OR and William R. Martin of LaGrange, GA; seven grandchildren, Madison Ray Martin, Christian Emily Pearce, Harper Lee Martin, Natalie Ruth Martin, Amelia Grace Pearce, Jackson Edward Martin, and Baily Ann Martin; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Ayers and The Rev. Dr. J. Faulkner Martin officiating. Interment followed at Douglas City Cemetery.

Sims Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

In Lieu of Flowers memorial may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Still Waters of Douglas, GA, or Faulkner-Martin Scholarship at South Georgia College.
