The Coffee Trojans track and field teams both finished sixth at the Game Changers Apex Invite in Richmond Hill on Friday. The schools were from a variety of classifications. 

 

 

The Trojans set 17 personal records at this meet. Setting personal records for the meet were Josie Lott (2000m steeplechase, 1600 meter run), Andre Brewton (110 and 300 meter hurdles), Nathaniel Tapia (2000 meter steeplechase), Tyrese Woodgett (100 and 200 meter dash), Travis Adams (200 meter dash),Will Bagwell(1600 meter run). Nevin Swanson (800 and1600 meter run), Zean Preston (300 meter hurdles), Ja’Maria Harvey (long jump), Janiya Brown (long jump), KJ Smith (long jump), Jayden Hancock (triple jump) and Lorenzo Harvey (shot put). 

 

 

Freshman Josie Lott secured a new school record in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:34.09. The steeplechase is not a contested event in GHSA. The event is only run at select venues in Georgia. Josie finished seventh place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:24.56. She also had an eighth place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:56.55. 

 

 

Tyrese Woodgett established a new personal record in the 100 meter dash to finish fourth overall with a time of 11.01 seconds. Anthony Pualk finished the 100 meter dash with an 11.14 seconds for a sixth place finish.In an unusual circumstance, Travis Adams and Woodgett ran a 22.74 second 200 meter dash for a fourth place tie. 

 

 

Janiya Brown took fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.14 seconds. Junior Ja’Maria Harvey finished fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.50. Senior Nevin Swanson set a new personal record and a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:05.5.97. He also ran a personal record and a fourth place finish in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:42.17. 

 

 

Kate Merritt finished first in the 1600 meter run with a 5:22.65 time. She also scored another first place finish in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:44.42. Both times were Georgia Top 50 times at the time of this article. 

 

 

Will Bagwell ran a 4:42.12 in the 1600 meter run to finish third. Will also took third in the 3200 meter run with the time of 10:19.16. 

 

 

The Trojan 4X100 meter relay team of Jaquon Harrison, Tyrese Woodgett, Anthony Paulk, and Travis Adamss ran a 43.80 seconds for a fourth place finish. The Lady Trojans ran a 51.45 seconds in the 4X100 meter relay of Denya Young, Iyani Johnson, Janiya Brown, and Ja’Maria Harvey. 

 

 

The 800 meter relay team of Jewel Goolsby, Denya Young, Janiya Brown, and Iyani Johnson finished the race in 1:58.82 for a seventh place finish. 

 

 

The relay team of Micale Smith, Jair Bonilla, Brian Stafford , and Landon Cliett scored a eighth place finish in the 3200 meter relay with a time of 9:48.36. 

 

 

KJ Smith cleared 39 feet and 7.5 inches in the triple jump to finish seventh place. Tyrese Hansley placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 127 and 2 inches. 

 

 

The Trojans will travel to Lowndes County for the Hiram Johnson Underclassman Meet. This meet is the name of Hiram Johnson, a Coffee County native who attended the George Washington Carver High School. He was a long time member of the Lowndes County High School as a teacher and coach of 30 plus years. 

 

 

On Friday, they will travel to Starr’s Mill Friday Night Lights meet at Fayetteville.
