The Douglas Stingrays won their 17th GRPA District II swim championship on Monday in Kingsland. The ‘Rays amassed over 1,300 points, dominating the meet against second place Wayne County and third place Okefenokee Swim Club. Camden County finished fourth.

The team took 113 swimmers to the meet and qualified 109 for the state meet in Tifton. “This is by far the most swimmers we have had on the team and also by far the most we have taken to the state meet,” commented Stingray Coach CM Jenkins. “This will hopefully propel us to our fourth State championship in the last six years.” The Stingrays are also sending 44 relays to etate in Tifton next week.

The team had several swimmers win all three of their events on Monday. Leading the ‘Rays by sweeping their events and relays were 8 year old swimmer Hope Tanner, 9 year old Will Walker, 10 year old Anna Lee Osteen, 13 year old Jon Vickers , 17 year old Luke McCarty and 18 year old swimmers Meaghan Hill and Taylor Justice.

Also winning events were Arabelle Roberts, Karsyn Scholton, Noah Morris, Charley Hobbs, Christian Colson, Barrett Harrell, Loren Osteen, Emelia Brown, Reed Waldron, Ben Gowen, Leah Leverette and Will Vickers.

Congratulations to all 113 Stingrays who competed in the meet, and also congrats to Stingray coaches Greg Lee, Jim Minchew, Annesly Vickers and CM Jenkins.
