Jean Carolyn Brantley born December 15, 1947 in Douglas Georgia and passed away on May 19, 2026 at Advent Hospice Care Center in Altamonte Springs, Florida following an extended battle with Alzheimer’s. Jean is the daughter of the late Opal Harper and James Frank Brantley.
Jean graduated from Coffee High School in 1965, Valdosta University of Cosmetology in 1968, South Georgia College A.S. in 1969 and in 1984 graduated from South Georgia College with A.S. in Nursing.
Nursing allowed her to live out her core values of loving and caring for others. Jean worked in a myriad of environments in her 22-year career as a nurse, from hospitals to home health care to opening a personal care home, The Taylor House, where she cared for her mother and others with Alzheimer’s. Wherever she worked she received recognitions of jobs well done.
After retiring from nursing, Jean began serving the children of the community through foster care. She helped over 20 children through the foster care system. This is where she found her true joy, loving and caring for children.
Jean loved being outside, she enjoyed working in her yard, rooting roses, and caring for her fruit trees and grape vine. Jean loved fishing with anyone, especially her dog Bogie. She and Bogie lived at Lakeside Senior Living where she was able to craft, she enjoyed painting but her greatest pastime was bingo. Jean moved to Oakmonte Village, Lake Mary FL, where she continued to play bingo, enjoying social outings and listening to the daily music performances. Jean moved into Serenades of Longwood, FL memory care unit in July of 2025. The constant in her life was loving and caring of others.
Jean was preceded in death by her son Brantley Shane Taylor, her sisters Audrey Rains and Maxine Lamb, her brothers Billy, Tony, Jack, Jesse, Jimmy and Julian Brantley.
