Mr. Johnny Knight, age 78, of Ambrose, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his son David’s home on Tuesday morning, June 16, 2026, following a lengthy decline in health.
Johnny was born September 22, 1947, in Douglas, Georgia, to the late James Acey Knight and the late Thelma Music Knight. He served his country proudly in the United States Army then went on to dedicate many years to working and managing at Walmart Distribution Center #6010 in Douglas, Georgia. He was a loving father and grandfather who found immense joy in time spent with his family. He particularly enjoyed playing cards with his sisters. He had a deep love for golf and would watch and play as often as possible. He also enjoyed walking with his buddies, movie nights, and watching westerns.
Along with his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Harrell Knight who passed away in 2017, and two brothers, James Knight and Jimmy Knight.
Johnny leaves behind two children: Johnny Knight and wife, Misty, of Douglas, Georgia, and David Lamar Knight and wife, Christy, of Ambrose, Georgia; four grandchildren: Kaleb Lamar Knight, Skylar Knight, Kensley Jean Knight and Andon Case Knight; three great-grandchildren: Kendra Knight, Kaycen Knight, and Klara Knight; along with two sisters: Janice K Bradford and husband, Junior, of Valdosta, Georgia, and Joann K. Nipper and husband, Raymond, of Douglas, Georgia; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Johnny’s family will receive friends on Thursday evening, June 18, 2026, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Ricketson Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service honoring Johnny’s life will be held on Friday afternoon, June 19, 2026, at 2:00 PM at St. Illa Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Regan officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will include Raymond Nipper, Junior Bradford, Kaleb Knight, Marcus Wilkinson, Ezra Burke, and Robbie Carroll. Honorary pallbearers will include the Wylene Coffee Adult Sunday School Class, Ira Sharpe, and Larry Crosby.
