The CCA Lady Patriots and the Pinewood Christian Academy Lady Trojans were locked in a dogfight through five innings. CCA had chipped away to a 3-1 lead, scoring one run in each of the first three innings. Pinewood scored in the second then added two in the fifth to knot the game at three apiece.
Then the Lady Patriots’ bats woke up. CCA erupted for seven runs in the sixth then shut down Pinewood in the seventh for a 10-3 win in Douglas.
Arabelle Roberts started the merry-go-round when she singled with Peighton Harper on second and Allie Veal on third. Maci Rucker scored on Roberts’s single. Brilynn Waldron cleared the bases with a two-RBI triple, scoring Rucker and Roberts for a 6-3 lead. Waldron scored on a wild pitch with Shanley Meeks at the plate. The onslaught continued when Emma Gourley hit a two-run home run to put the Lady Patriots up 9-3. After Mattie Lewis doubled and Klair Mercer singled, Lily Waldron drove in Lewis on a groundout to third for CCA’s final run of the game.
Three Lady Patriots had three hits: Brilynn Waldron, Gourley, and Lewis. Brilynn Waldron also drove in three while Gourley drove in two. Roberts, Gourley, and Meeks, who walked three times, scored two twice. Brilynn Waldron, Gourley, and Lewis doubled. Brilynn Waldron tripled and Gourley hit the game’s only home run.
Harper handled the pitching duties for CCA. She gave up three runs (one earned) on four hits while striking out five and walking three.
CCA is 9-3 on the season and faces GHSA foe Charlton County Monday at 6 p.m. in Folkston.
