The Coffee Lady Trojans needed just 10 ½ innings to dispatch the Northside-Warner Robins Eagles in a doubleheader Thursday at Faircloth Field in Douglas. The Lady Trojans won game one 8-0 in six innings then took game two 12-2 in four and a half innings.
Coffee was on cruise control in game one and built a 3-0 lead through four innings. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Lady Trojans erupted for five runs in the sixth to end the game via run rule. Maggie Brown ended the game with a double that scored Allie Pridgen to invoke the run rule.
Brown, Jocelyn Fender, and Hannah Carlon had two hits each. Carlon also scored twice. Pridgen and Brown both doubled.
Brown and Kanley Douglas threw a combined no-hitter against the Eagles. Brown went two innings and struck out four. Douglas struck out six in four innings.
Only one Eagle reached base. In the top of the fifth, Madison Vias made it to first on a Coffee error. The Lady Trojans turned a double play in the next at-bat and ended any semblance of a rally the Eagles might have had in mind. As such, Brown and Douglas faced the minimum of 18 hitters and nearly combined for a perfect game.
In game two, the Eagles finally got on the scoreboard but it was too little, too late (Coffee had shut out Northside 8-0 on Tuesday). The Lady Trojans were already up 8-0 when the Eagles plated two in the top of the third. Coffee came back and scored four more in the bottom of the frame to take a 12-2 lead.
Fender and Kia Wilson had two hits for Coffee. Fender also scored three times. Ella Edge, Douglas, Pridgen, and Wilson all drove in two.
Brown returned to the circle and went the distance, giving up two earned runs on four hits. She struck out seven and didn’t walk anyone.
The Lady Trojans are now 5-2 overall and 3-0 in region play. Coffee is back in action Tuesday against Tift County.
