Joceyln Fender was a double shy of the cycle in the Coffee Trojans’ 8-0, run-rule shortened win over the visiting Ware County Gators Tuesday night at Faircloth Field in Douglas.
Fender got the hardest part of the cycle out of the way in the first inning when she tripled down the right field line, driving in one run in the process. She homered in the third and singled in the fourth. She didn’t get another chance to complete the cycle; the game ended before she got a third trip to the plate.
The Lady Trojans scored two in the first, four in the third, and two in the fourth while keeping the Gators off the board.
Fender was 3-3 and her four RBI accounted for half of Coffee’s runs. Ella Edge was 3-3 with three runs while Kanlee Douglas and Maggie Brown had two hits each. Allie Pridgen, Edge, Douglas, and Brown all doubled.
Brown threw a complete-game one-hitter, striking out seven with no walks.
The Lady Trojans are now 1-2 on the season. They have a week off before the region schedule begins with a trip up I-75 to face the Northside-Warner Robins Eagles in Warner Robins. The two teams play a double-header at Faircloth on August 20 beginning at 4 p.m.
