Martha Jean Pridgen Meeks passed away peacefully at her home following an extended illness on December 21, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family and caretakers. Martha Jean was born in Coffee County, Georgia on August 14,1931.
Her pride and joy were her three sons, John, Tim, and Tom Meeks.
In her early years of marriage she taught school at New Forest School and WestGreen School.
She was a wonderful mother, homemaker and farmer. She stayed on top of the daily operations of the farm known as Roscoe Meeks & Sons from the bookkeeper, picking up eggs, birthing pigs, raising pigs and took care of the harvesting of the pecan crops. In her earlier years of the family harvesting tobacco, raising produce or picking blueberries she would provide the workers with the most wonderful spread of food found anywhere in Coffee County, Georgia. One of favorite passions was her love of growing the most beautiful flowers. She enjoyed making floral arrangements and placing them in Central Baptist Church from her yard.
Her survivors include her three sons, John (Angela) Meeks, Tim (Rose) Meeks, and Tom (Nora) Meeks, all of Douglas, Ga. Also are her nine grandchildren, KaDee (Chris) Scott, Ryan (Courtney) Meeks, Allison (Shanon) Spivey, Tanna (Josh) Owsley, Joseph (Whitney) Meeks, Josh Meeks, Lindsey (Warren) Spivey, Lauren (Chris) Sears, and Amy Meeks; sixteen great grandchildren; Paxlee Scott and Piper Scott of Statesboro, GA; Gunner Meeks, Lila (Russell) Peacock, Ty Spivey, Josie Meeks, Allie Meeks, Aldyn Jo Owsley, Cannon Moseley, Matthew Meeks, Maci Meeks, Rylee Spivey, Addison Spivey, Britton Spivey, Rowan Spivey and Reb Spivey all of Douglas, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bessie Kight Pridgen, her husband, Roscoe Meeks, her brother, JM Pridgen; her sisters, Mildred Pridgen Dockery, Nell Pridgen McCallum, Lorene Pridgen Brigmond, and Louise Pridgen McKinnon and her precious great granddaughter, Neely Pearl Scott. Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews.
Honorable mention and heartful thanks to each sitter and hospice nurse that had an opportunity of giving exceptional care of her: Lexie White, Janet Davis, Judy Chaney, Sheryl Tipton, Shasta Taft, Marie Music, Michelle McCallum, Jaiden Hall and Nikki all of whom are her Honorary Pallbearers.
Pallbearers are: Ryan Meeks, Chris Scott, Joseph Meeks, Josh Meeks, Josh Owsley, Shanon Spivey, Warren Spivey and Chris Sears.
Funeral services will be held at Central Baptist Church on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 3:00 PM with Wes Brown officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 PM.
Interment will follow at Central Baptist Church.
Sims Funeral Home of Douglas, GA will be in charge of the arrangements.
