They almost got away with it. Then the video got them.
A Douglas woman and her son have been arrested and charged after they allegedly attacked a 36-year-old man at Georgian Woods Apartments, hitting him in the head with a handgun in the process.
According to a report from the Douglas Police Department, the initial incident took place on June 20, 2026. The two suspects, Veanitra Quevette Brown, 43, and Zion Deshon Brown, 22, both of Douglas, weren’t arrested until July.
The report says that on June 20, 2026, at approximately 5:40 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a South Coffee Avenue address in reference to an assault. The victim, a 36-year-old male, said that he was leaving his apartment at Georgian Woods when Veanitra and Zion approached him, yelling at him.
According to the report, Zion threw two punches at the victim, with one connecting. The victim fought back and while they were struggling, Veanitra hit him in the back of the head with a pistol. The victim had injuries on the back of his head consistent with being hit with a handgun.
In the report, Veanitra said that the victim got a gun out of his vehicle. All three started arguing, she said in the report, then the victim and Zion started fighting. The victim had Zion in a chokehold and she feared that Zion was being hurt. She grabbed a pistol and hit the victim, according to the report.
Initially, because of conflicting statements and because Veanitra was acting in defense of her son, the officer didn’t charge anyone.
Then the video surfaced.
The following day, an individual contacted the responding officer and showed him a video of the incident that had been making its round on social media. The video shows Zion approach the victim and start punching him. The victim defended himself and put Zion in a chokehold, according to the report. Several people separated the two. After they were separated and the fight was over, the video shows Veanitra approach the victim from behind and hit him in the head with a pistol, the report says.
After watching the video, the officer took warrants on Veanitra and Zion. Veanitra was arrested on July 16 and booked into the Coffee County Jail on an aggravated assault charge. She was released on a $5,500 property bond. Zion was arrested on July 26, 2026, and booked into the jail on a battery charge. At the time of this writing, he was still in the Coffee County Jail but had been granted a $1,000 bond.
