A mother and her son have been arrested and charged with charges related to insurance fraud in an investigation that goes back to 2022 in Lowndes County. Horace Kelly, 39, was arrested on October 23, 2025, by officers from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. Greta Patterson, 62, was arrested December 15, 2025, by deputies from the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office. She was booked into the Coffee County Jail and later released. The official residences for both Kelly and Patterson are listed as Hahira.
According to a spokesperson with the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, Kelly was a total loss representative with National General Insurance Company and had been under investigation for allegedly receiving insurance payments on behalf of NGIC policyholders and taking the payments for himself through a fraudulent towing company. The spokesperson stated that between February and August of 2022, more than 100 checks were cashed or deposited by Kelly and his mother, Patterson, who is a minister, totaling over $100,000.
The spokesperson added that the policyholders were not aware that claims were being filed on their behalf. The investigation, which the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office opened on August 5, 2022, is ongoing and the amount of allegedly stolen funds may increase. The LCSO notified the insurance commissioner’s office once it had initiated the investigation.
Both Kelly and Patterson have been released from jail.
