The CCA Patriots are 3-1 overall and 1-1 in region play after defeating the Georgia Christian Generals 30-0 in Dasher on Friday night.
Senior athlete Tyson Crosby rushed for 176 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown. He also had a touchdown reception to go with his rushing score. Quarterback Sam Ables carried the ball 13 times for 82 yards and two touchdowns. He was also 3-9 passing for 32 yards and a touchdown, an 11-yard toss to Crosby.
The Patriots marched 71 yards in 13 plays for their first score of the night, a one-yard run by Ables. Crosby made the two-point attempt for an 8-0 lead. Ables also scored CCA’s next touchdown on a 42-yard run that capped a 68-yard drive. Ables completed a pass to Connor Reckley for the two-point conversion for a 16-0 lead.
Special teams stepped up big on the third touchdown of the night. Bo Roberts blocked a punt that the Patriots recovered on Georgia Christian’s nine-yard line. Three plays later, Ables threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Crosby. The two-point conversion was no good; the Patriots, however, had a commanding 22-0 lead.
CCA scored one touchdown in the second half, this time on a 72-yard run by Crosby. He also made the two-point conversion for a 30-0 lead that ended up being the final score.
While the Patriot offense was doing its work, the defense was keeping the Generals’ offense very much in check. CCA’s defensive unit dominated, tallying nine tackles for loss/sacks.
The Patriots have been dealing with a variety of early-season injuries to some important pieces of their gridiron puzzle and need a week off. Fortunately, they’ll get that very thing next week before returning to action with a region contest at home against Fullington on September 18 at 7:30 p.m.
